Safe Holiday Celebration Ideas During COVID-19

With the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, small household gatherings and events of all sizes are adding to the rise in cases. Because of this, your holiday gathering may look different this year; but it doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate the season in joyful, meaningful ways. Keep your friends, families, and communities healthy by incorporating some of these COVID conscious holiday celebration ideas into your holiday routine this year.
- Share traditional family recipes. If you won’t be physically in the same place this holiday season, you can still enjoy sharing your favorite recipes with family. Mail your recipes or meet virtually to reminisce on old times.
- Get active outside. Local reindeer runs and jingle bell runs are upon us and many are hosting virtual races. Enjoying the outdoors is one of the best ways to soothe your soul and destress during the holidays. Find a list of outdoor holiday events at www.active.com/holiday.
- Gift creatively. If you must go to a store to shop, wear your mask, go during off-peak times and always try to shop local. For out-of-the-box gift ideas this year, try sending a meal or dessert to your friends and family via their favorite local restaurants or make a donation in a friend’s name to their favorite non-profit organization. For those who love to organize an annual gift exchange or secret Santa, these types of fun events can still be held virtually, with no risk of spreading disease.
- Check in on loved ones. It is not easy to get through a holiday season during a global pandemic. Call your family, friends, neighbors and long-ago acquaintances. Spread kindness this holiday season, not germs.
